A steep road twists uphill from Pissouri Bay to the older and larger settlement of Pissouri; a traditional Cypriot village of higgledy-piggledy whitewashed houses nestled in the hillside around a cobbled pedestrian square – the venue for all village events.
Cyprus Night
Friday’s village evening of Cypriot bouzouki music and costume dance traditionally happens either outdoors in Pissouri Square or in one of the village centre restaurants during the peak summer months. We, along with locals and visitors have spent many happy evenings enjoying this buzzing communal celebration.
To be at the heart of the action, plan ahead and book a table at Platea or O’Vrakas for their huge meze dinner. Or dine elsewhere and come to the square for the entertainment afterwards. If you are staying without a car, it’s worth taking a taxi up to the village for the evening.
A narrator explains the dances (in English). Spectacular glass balancing feats are a crucial part of the display, and Pissouri visitors are encouraged to join in with the fun.
Village Contrasts: Old and New
A meander among the maze of donkey-width side streets reveals the ‘real’ Cyprus; terracotta pots brimming with geraniums, ancient peeling doors, and fabulous sea glimpses.
Pissouri’s modern amphitheatre has a programme of events throughout the summer. A magical experience if one coincides with your stay.

Amphitheatre: a fabulous modern venue for music, theatre and dance performances – don’t miss a brilliant tribute act show if you get the chance.
Pissouri Live Webcam
Thanks to our local computer whizz – the brilliant Markos – and the Kitas Weather website, we now have a live camera view from a hillside above the village, so you can see the weather as it happens. In summer, this will normally be wall-to-wall blue skies and bright sunshine. In winter, you could catch some spectacular electric thunderstorms.

Daily Time-Lapses
You can also view a time-lapse version of past videos by clicking on the left arrow. It’s fascinating watching each day and night. The 24-hours begins in high contrast with the dark sky against the bright village lights. After the dawn sunrise, you can almost feel the temperature rising as the colours warm before you. Super-fast cloud movements, and changing shadows track the day’s weather story. Each film is completed with the evening sunset, before a return to monochromatic night.
